It's been a busy few weeks with 40+ BRAND NEW roles for Quantity Surveyors, of all levels, across London and the South East. There's no time like the present - why not get ahead of the curve while the market is thriving and there are plenty of opportunities out there, all offering something slightly different. I've spoken with a number of Quantity Surveyors lately who feel their current working situation/role isn't quite right, maybe there's something missing, yet they hold out, hoping that something will change. If you have ever felt like this, or feel like this right now, ask yourself this, did that something ever change? The answer is probably not, and if you're in this position as we speak, you know nothing's going to change, why are you wasting your time? I'm currently working with such a vast range of clients and supporting a huge array of opportunities, there's no doubt that there's something suited to YOU out there... You don't have to be 'actively' looking for a new job to reach out to me and discuss your options, interested in just considering a different opportunity or seeing what's out there at the moment? Get in touch! I'm always available for a confidential chat. 01628 367 038 | olivia.gregson@brandonjames.co.uk #recruitment #marketresearch #construction #londonconstruction #newopportunity #recruitmentconsultancy #costmanagement

Some Quantity Surveyors believe that the job they are doing is fine for now.I've heard it so many times. Should work be rewarding? - Yes.Should your job be enjoyable? - Yes.Should the senior management respect you for your contribution? - Yes.Is there something better that might suit you, even if you're not looking for a new role? - Maybe. That's the point. It's a maybe. It's also a maybe from me too. Will you be the ideal candidate and fit-in perfectly? Don't wait to be completely fed up or disillusioned; start talking. I realise that QSs aren't the most talkative folk on the planet and that's fine.Don't worry; I'll cut the chase pretty quickly when we start chatting. In fact, I'll make a bet with you, that you'll be so impressed, you'll want to keep in touch for life.Buckinghamshire - Niche, High-end, Bespoke.M3 corridor - NEC/JCT - Senior QS (Mixed use)SeniorQS.co.uk

Did you start your career as a Quantity Surveyor, thinking that it's a job or did you think of it as a career path to greater things? It's an interesting thought if you can be bothered. How many QSs have started to visualise their lives unfolding to become part of something? Part of a business where you can see a pathway to running your own department in the medium term.I ask because I have such an opportunity and I suspect that whoever joins this business won't look back. There are some important criteria to be considered, but if these criteria are met, (where you live) (where you've worked) you could do well to take a little look at this nice career path.Let's start by speaking.WeWantYou.co.uk

Building Better Structures, Building Better Lives - Chief Talent and Strategy Officer at Baker Construction, Inc.

I regularly encounter people who don’t see the wisdom in taking a position with a growing subcontractor when there are “bigger and better” roles out there at a large company.People are understandably wary of getting pigeonholed in their careers or having to delay that next step. But at Baker, advancement comes quickly to those who demonstrate grit, and there are many opportunities.Baker is one of the largest subcontractors on a project. And I firmly believe there’s a tremendous sense of pride that comes with that. Our co-workers get to be part of some of the nation’s most innovative projects. They can point to the buildings and structures they’ve worked on, and the direct impact they’ve made. And don’t underestimate the breadth of career paths available here.Sure, we have co-workers who place concrete. But we also rely on people skilled at virtual design and construction, estimating, recruiting, marketing, personal development, and beyond. As I like to tell people, we’re a people company that places concrete. We’re not a concrete company that hires people.

What tip would you give to yourself, if you could talk back to yourself when you were just starting to find a job?If I had my chance again, I would definitely tell him to take his time to learn about the different opportunities available in the industry. Most of the time, we only have one chance to choose our career path. I learned the hard way that if you really want to pursue something, you have to take immediate action on it.When I was job hunting, one thing I considered was the salary package a company could offer. Also, I really didn't want to work on Saturdays, which limited my options to office work. Six months passed, and my views changed. I gradually became curious about the different roles of a Civil Engineer in the construction industry. That's when I switched from working in an office to working on-site. I was fortunate enough to do that even though I didn't have experience, as I was still starting my career. I enjoyed my time on-site, although the work was somewhat stressful due to the pandemic at the time. Little by little, I realized that the tasks I truly enjoyed involved budgeting, costing, and estimating. I worked on a subdivision, so we often acted as both quantity surveyors and site engineers. After being a Site Engineer for one and a half years, I tried pursuing Quantity Surveying. Unfortunately, I wasn't competent enough in the market to land a job in this field. This was when my previous job offered me a new opportunity to switch to the QS path, which was a one-in-a-million chance. We live in a world where everything depends on our experience. That's why whenever a newly graduated friend asks me for tips about looking for a job, I make sure they understand exactly what the industry can offer. Many of us want to shift into different roles, but not all of us are fortunate enough to have this opportunity granted. I'm grateful to be one of the people who were given the chance to switch to work that I truly enjoy doing.#careeradvice #careerdevelopment
