Voter drive
Project VIER is sponsoring a voter registration event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at East Waco Library, 901 Elm Ave.; South Waco Library, 2737 S. 18th St.; and West Waco Library, 5301 Bosque Blvd.; and from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 15, Central Library, 1717 Austin Ave.
Fusion of Flavors
Celebrating 175 Years of Waco: A Fusion of Flavors and Culture takes place from 6-10 p.m. Friday at Texas Music Cafe, 110 S. Sixth St.
Tickets cost $60 and are available at eventbrite.com.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the Jacob De Cordova Society and Waco’s 175th Birthday Celebration.
The evening features culture, music, and delicious food. Savor the fusion of Spanish and Jamaican cuisine while enjoying the smooth sounds of a Spanish jazz band. Guest speakers will share stories and insights about Waco’s journey.

‘Nutcracker’ auditions
Ballet Frontier’s Waco Youth “Nutcracker” auditions are Saturday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Joy’s School of Dance, 7560 Bosque Blvd.
Young dancers, ages 7-11, in Waco will rehearse and perform alongside professional dancers, artistic staff, and the Waco Symphony Orchestra in the beloved holiday classic “The Nutcracker.”

“Nutcracker” performances are Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m.
La Vega blood drive
La Vega High School, 555 N. Loop 340, will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday on a Carter BloodCare Bus.

Car show Saturday
The Southern Careers Institute in Waco is hosting its first car show Saturday, with assistance from the I-35 Legends Car and Truck Club.
The event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. welcomes “car enthusiasts and families alike ... to experience a showcase of stunning cars and trucks, ranging from classic beauties to modern marvels.”
Food trucks, two local radio stations and free swag will provide sustenance and entertainment.
Admission is free, and attendees are welcome to tour the Southern Careers Institute Waco campus at 3700 Interstate 35, Suite A.
Diabetes cooking class
Cooking Well with Diabetes, a four-lesson cooking series led by Rachel Esquivel, is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the McLennan County Extension Office, 4224 Cobbs Drive.
Thursday meetings will continue at the same time through Sept. 26. Cost is $25.
The goal of the program is to help people living with diabetes, family members, or anyone just wanting to learn how to make changes to the food they eat and how it is prepared. The series will examine carbohydrates, meal planning, and reducing fat and sodium while maintaining flavorful dishes.

Food distribution
A free food distribution will run from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Downtown Transit Terminal, 301 S. Eighth St.
Recipients must bring an ID or driver’s license and are asked to bring a bag, box, tub or other receptacle to take away the food.
Reading the Constitution
The Henry Downs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in conjunction with the Elizabeth Gordon Bradley Chapter, will hold a public reading of the United States Constitution on the Steps of the McLennan County Courthouse (Fifth Street side) from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 17.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket. Water will be provided.
Murder mystery dinner
Cultivate 7twelve, 712 Austin Ave., is hosting a murder mystery dinner Sept. 13, from 7-9 p.m.
The event is a night full of intrigue, mystery, and delicious food catered by Uncle Worms.
Tickets are $50 for individuals or $85 for couples. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Ken Starr Lecture
The Ken Starr Lecture is Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Conference Center at McLennan Community College, 4601 N. 19th St.
Federal judges Don Willett and Brantley Starr are featured speakers.
